Sourcing Product Sales to Other Branches

If your branch does not carry a particular item in your inventory, and your customer is not allowed to order products from a branch that does, you can create a sales order and source it to that branch. Be aware that when you do this, the payment is credited to the other branch's account.

The Enable Auto Routing On Creation Of Sales Order control maintenance record identifies which branches are set up to use the Virtual Supplier companion product. The Define Routing Vs. Sourcing control maintenance record then identifies to which of those branches you can source product.

This instruction is an example of how sales orders can be sourced. Your company may use a different method to perform this process. The following are examples of how your company may use Virtual Supplier to source orders:

To source a product sale to another branch:

  1. From the Orders menu, select Sales Order Entry to display the Sales Order Entry Body screen.

  2. In the Ship To field, enter the customer's name.

  3. In the Qty/Unit field, enter the amount of the product to sell.

  4. In the Product Description field, enter the name of the product to sell.

Note: The product must be assigned to this customer in Virtual Supplier Maintenance.

  1. If needed, use the View hot key and select Earliest Avail from the selection list to view the availability of the product.

  2. If the requested quantity of the product is not currently available in stock at the source branch, create a new ship date and assign it to the product.

  3. To preview how the system will source the order, press Ctrl + 9.

  4. Invoke the sourcing rules for this customer by using one of the following methods:

  1. When you have finished entering products, press Esc to display the Sales Order Entry Status screen.

  2. Verify the status of the order.

Default sourcing statuses are set up in the Define Routing Vs. Sourcing control maintenance record, but you can override the status, if needed.

  1. Press Esc to return to the Sales Order Entry Body screen. The screen clears for the next entry, and your branch number displays in the PrcBr field.
