Route types are associated to the ship vias that you have established for zip codes to which you deliver product. For example, you might offer a same day delivery option for your customers who call with an immediate need. Your standard processing flow might be that you take orders today for delivery tomorrow or the following day. Using ship via route types, you can set up a zip code to have a route type that handles your normal shipping flow for orders to be delivered tomorrow within the same zip code, and one that routes the order to be shipped today.
Associate route types with ship vias at the zip code level. Complete the following procedure for each zip code that could have multiple routes associated with it.
You can restrict route types a customer is eligible to use in Customer Maintenance.
To define a valid route type for a ship via:
From the Maintenance > Zip Code menu, select Zip Code Maintenance to display the Zip Code Maintenance window.
In the Zip Code field, enter the Zip Code for which you want to define route types and click the Ship Via Route Type tab.
In the Route Types field, select the route type for which you want to assign a ship via.
In the Default Route Type Ship Viafield, select the shipping method associated with the default route.
When a salesperson selects the route type on an order for a customer within this zip code, the system uses the ship via set here for the route type.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 for any additional routes that apply to this zip code.
