About Carton Numbers

Eclipse uses the GS1 format standard for the 18-digit Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSCC). This GS1 identification key helps you track your containers through the supply chain. The SSCC enables the unit to be tracked in its entirety as an entity, regardless of the number of items, products, cartons, or packages contained. The SSCC number can then be used on Advanced Shipping Notices (ASN) or Shipping Manifests.

SSCC 18-digit numbers do allow for some flexibility. The company ID number determines how long the serial number is. Positions 5 through 16 make up the company and serial number. If the company prefix is six digits (as shown above in the blue outline), then the serial reference is nine digits. If the company prefix is longer or shorter, the serial reference number adjusts accordingly to ensure the number remains an 18-digit number.
