The following control maintenance records belong to the TAX area within the MAINT (Maintenance) category.

Avalara Tax Configurations

New in Release 9.0

Use to enable the Avalara for Eclipse companion product and set the parameters to use for the calculations. ClosedMore:

Enable Avalara Tax Calculations

Enter the date on which to start using the remaining settings to be used during tax calculations throughout order entry. This is an effective datewhen Eclipse should start using the new the new tax process.

Note:Avalara for Eclipse is a companion product. If you do not have this companion product a message displays to indicate that you can contact your Eclipse inside salesperson for more information.

General Settings tab

  • Avalara URL - The Internet address for the Avalara interface connection.

  • Avalara Account - Your customer account ID with Avalara.

  • Avalara License - The license number for the Avalara account.

  • Test Connection - Use the Test Connection button to verify the above information is accurate. The system tests the connection and displays confirmation when the information is correct or a warning message if the information is inaccurate.

Address Settings tab

  • Enable Address Verification check box - Select to turn on the process for verifying addresses in orders for calculating tax. Deselect to discontinue the verification process.

  • Address Verification Mode - Indicate if you want to check addresses for validity manually or automatically. By selecting Automatic the system check every place on the order where an address displays. The default is Automatic.

  • Country Verification List - Enter the primary country where addresses will be verified. There is no default.

G/L tab

Default Account - Select the account you want to use for Avalara tax calculations.

Outcome of setting this control record

Eclipse connects with Avalara to calculate tax for orders.

Enablecheck boxes must be selected to use this companion product. If deselected, tax calculates normally through the standard Eclipse process.

Additional Information

When disabled a message displays indicating that Avalara for Eclipse is a companion product. Users can contact Eclipse Support or their inside salesperson for more information.

Avalara for Eclipse Overview

Valid Tax Exempt Types

Enter tax exempt types that describe the reason for a tax jurisdiction override for customers who should not be charged sales tax on purchases. ClosedMore:

Options

Any tax exempt type up to 10 characters long.

Outcome of setting this control record

You can assign a tax exempt number and one of the tax exempt types defined here to a tax jurisdiction override on the Sales Tax window (Pricing > Sales Tax) in Customer Maintenance.

Action if set to Null

No tax exempt types are available for selection in Customer Maintenance.

Additional Information

Typical tax exempt types are Gov't, Non-Profit, Church, and Resale. Before creating tax exempt types, review your state's rules to ensure your company is in compliance with applicable laws.

Zip Administrator

For each branch, enter the user or message group to receive update reports and messages regarding updates to the zip code file. ClosedMore:

Options

Any valid user ID or message group in your system.

Outcome of setting this control record

Each time you upload new zip code files, the system generates a report that details which zip codes, or sales tax rates, have changed. The user or message group in this record receives notification through the system message system that updates have completed, or, if no new information is available, a message that no update file is available.

No message is generated regarding updates to the zip code file.

Additional Information

On a monthly basis, Eclipse support administrators receive zip code and sales tax updates. You schedule your system to download this information from a local ftp server in a manageable file format and size. The zip code files contain standard five digit zip codes.

Zip+4/Sales Tax Administrator

For each branch, enter the user or message group to receive update reports and messages regarding updates to the ZIP4 file. ClosedMore:

Any valid user ID or message group in your system.

Outcome of setting this control record

Each time you upload new zip + 4 files, the system generates a report that details which zip codes, or sales tax rates, have changed. The user or message group in this record receives notification through the system message system that updates have completed, or, if no new information is available, a message that no update file is available.
