Use the Graph Scale&Display tab under the Graph Options dialog box to change the proportions of the graph or its elements. You can change things like the scale, the proximity of labels to the graph, and the depth of three-dimensional objects.
To change the scale and other display options for a table graph:
Create a table graph.
From the Graph window, select File > Graph Options.
Click the Graph Scale & Display tab.
Note: As you change the information in the dialog box, the Example Graph area shows how it affects the graph.
In the Scale Attributes area, complete the following fields, as needed:
Field | Description |
Display Lower Bound | The lowest value to display on the y-axis. Review the value in the Data Lower Bound field to determine the lowest actual value in the data range. We recommend that your value be the same or lower than this value. |
Display Upper Bound | The highest value to display on the y-axis. Review the value in the Data Upper Bound field to determine the highest actual value in the data range. We recommend that your value be the same or higher than this value. |
Increment Marks | If you created a bar or line graph, this value determines how many tick marks display between the lower and upper limit of the y-axis. For example, if your data ranges between 0 and 100, you might want to use increments of 5 to more easily determine the value of a specific data set on the chart and how it compares with other data sets. Entering a value of 5 would display 20 tick marks on the graph. |
In the Insets area, complete the following fields, as needed:
Field | Description |
North Title Inset | The distance (in points) between the bottom of the main title of the graph and the upper bound of the graph. |
South Title Inset | The distance (in points) between the top of the title that identifies the data group and the lower bound of the graph. |
West Title Inset | The distance (in points) between the end of the title that identifies the amount or frequency of occurrence of the data group and the beginning of the largest number on the y-axis. |
Legend Inset | The distance between the right edge of the graph and the left edge of the legend. |
In the Display Options area, do the following, as needed:
To... | Do this... |
adjust the depth of a three-dimensional data element in proportion to its width | in the 3D Depth(%) field, enter a percentage amount. The default is 25%. |
hide the value lines within a line or bar graph | deselect the Display Grid check box; otherwise, leave it selected. |
hide the labels for each data set | deselect the Display Labels check box; otherwise, leave it selected. |
display lines on a line or bar graph to show the average values for each data set | select the Display Average check box; otherwise, leave it deselected. |
To change the angle at which the data set labels display on the graph, in the Label Angle area, click and hold the mouse pointer and drag the arrow to the appropriate angle to view the data label information.
To include negative numbers as absolute values in a pie graph, select the Pie Chart Option check box; otherwise, leave it blank.
Click OK to save your changes and return to the graph. The system updates the graph accordingly.
