When the products your customers order are not available, use the Product Relationships window to suggest substitute products. If you can substitute a product similar to the requested product, the customer will not have to wait for a backorder or procurement.
You can also use the Product Relationships window to suggest other products typically needed when the requested item is ordered. For example, if you are selling an air conditioner, your customer often also needs a thermostat.
Depending on your control maintenance settings, the system may automatically display this window with a list of all available substitute and add-on products, including upgrades, when you enter a product. You cannot substitute products that are being procured or those that are tagged to transactions.
Note: Users must be assigned the SOE.SOURCING authorization key to review substitute or related product lists.
When you add substitute or related products, any comments attached to the products are also copied to the order.
You cannot substitute products that are being procured or those that are tagged to transactions. You also cannot substitute a product if a partial quantity of that product has already shipped on another order generation.
To add a substitute or related product:
Create or open a sales order and display the order's Body tab.
Select a line item for which substitutes or related items are available. When a product has available substitutes or add-ons, the word "Substitutes" displays in red on the Status bar.
From the Line Item menu, select Substitutes to display the Product Relationships window. If substitute or add-on products exist, they will display in the Suggested Items area. The type of product (substitute or related), suggested quantity, available amount, status, and unit price are also shown.
Select a substitute or related product and click Add Item to Order to add it to the Selected Items area.
In the Selected Items area, edit the following fields, as needed:

Save your changes and exit the window. The substitute or related item is added to the order.
