Selling and Customizing Product Kits

In most ways, selling a kit is like selling any other product. However, if any kit components are not available, you may order the kit differently, depending on how your system is set up. In some cases, you cannot order a kit unless all of its components are available. Or, you might be able to order the available kit components and backorder the rest.

To order a product kit:

Create or open a sales order and display the order's Body tab.
Enter the product kit just as you would enter any product. Entering a kit automatically includes all of its parts.
Complete the order as usual.

To customize a product kit:

Create or open a sales order and display the order's Body tab.
Enter the product kit just as you would enter any product.
With the kit line item selected, select Line Item > Schedule to display the Line Item Scheduling window.
From the Edit menu, select Kit (which is only available if the product is a kit) to display the Product Kit Maintenance window.
In the Quantity field, specify the quantity for each product.

Note: You cannot enter a negative quantity. For more information, see Returning Kits or Kit Components.

In the Component Description field, enter products using either of these methods:

Enter each product individually.
Enter a forward slash (/) followed by a price line or family. This opens a simplified Reorder Pad window. The simplified window omits last purchase and suggested purchase details.

In the Reorder Pad window, specify the quantity for each product, and then save your changes and exit the window to return to Product Kit Maintenance. The items you selected display there in the quantities you chose.

You cannot add products that have a Delete status and no available quantity to a kit.

Edit the fields below, as needed. Some fields are view-only, while others must be accessed by toggling between different window views, as noted.

Field	Specifies...
Description	the name of this kit. This field is view-only.
Dynamic Kit	whether the kit is a dynamic kit. This field is view-only.
Print Components	whether to print all components on tickets and invoices.
Calculate Sell Method	how selling price is determined. Select one of the following: Use Kit Product Price, Sum Comp Price, Less Kit Disc, or Sum Discounted Comp Prices.
Calc Cost Method	how cost is determined. Select one of the following: Use Kit Product Price, Sum Comp Price, Less Kit Disc, or Sum Discounted Comp Prices. This field is not editable if the kit is dynamic.
Calc COGS Method	how COGS is determined. Select one of the following: Use Kit Product Price, Sum Comp Price, Less Kit Disc, or Sum Discounted Comp Prices. This field is not editable if the kit is dynamic.
Quantity	component quantity needed in kit.
Spoil %	spoilage percentage, used to calculate materials spoiled in manufacturing.
Component Description	the description of the products that are components of this kit.
Available, Default List, Cost, or COGS	the component's available quantity, default list price, cost, or COGS depending on your column view. To change your view, use the View menu.

Save your changes and exit the Product Kit Maintenance window and return to sales order entry.
Complete the order as usual.

Note: Custom kits built on the fly are not included in the Product Maintenance file for future use. For information about making kits that you can reuse, see Creating Product Kits.
