When you schedule a process to run in the phantom, define the following:
The time of day it runs.
The number of times a day, month, week, or year it runs.
The date it discontinues running. You can select to run a process indefinitely.
Use the Maximum Number of Running Phantoms option in User Maintenance to limit the number of phantoms that run at one time. Limiting the number of phantoms allows the system to run more efficiently.
To schedule a Phantom process:
From various Solar Eclipse windows, select Options >Schedule to display the Phantom Scheduler dialog box.
If prompted, select desired options in the Branch and Territory Selection dialog box and then click OK to display the Phantom Scheduler dialog box.
In the Title field, enter a new name for the process, as needed.
The system populates the field with the title of the program that brought you to the Phantom Scheduler dialog box, such as "Call When Complete Queue" if you accessed the Scheduler from the Customer Calling Queue Report. The system does not supply the title of a Report Writer report. Instead, you must enter such titles.
In the Start Time field, enter the time of day you want the phantom to begin running the process.
Note: The time zone will display to the right of your entry after you press Enter.
You can enter a time in a variety of ways. When including minutes with either normal or military time, type a colon between the hour and minutes.
9a for 9:00 am
9p for 9:00 pm
09 for 9:00 am military time (a not required)
21 for 9:00 pm military time (p not required)
Note: To avoid interfering with a system backup, schedule all phantom processes to run early in the evening as soon as the system is clear of users. This scheduling ensures that the day's work is backed up without delay.
In the Start Date field, enter the date you want the phantom to begin running the process.
After every running of a report or procedure, the phantom advances the date to that defined in the Reschedule field.
To set and expiration date, enter the date in the Expire Date field. To have the process run indefinitely, leave this field blank.
In the Repeat Every: field, if you want the phantom to run the report or procedure more than once a day, enter the number of minutes between runs.
In the Until field, which references the Repeat Every field, enter the latest time you want the process to run.
If you do not enter a value in this field, a repeating process runs 24 hours a day. On the next day, the process may start later than the time you indicate in the Start Time field. The entry in the Until field keeps the process from running 24 hours a day and from starting later than the start time on the next day.
In the Reschedule fields, click the boxes or circles next to a selection to define how often to run a process. Select any or all days in the left hand column, or make a selection in the right hand column.
Repeating Option | Repeats... |
Daily | each day after the start date selected. |
Weekly | each week based on the selected day in the left-hand column. |
Bi-Weekly | twice a week on the selected days for the process to repeat in the left-hand column. |
Monthly (Date) | monthly by the date entered in the Start Date field. For example, if the start date is 9/12/02, then the process will repeat on the 12th of each month. |
Monthly (Day of Week) | monthly by the day of the week selected on the left-hand column. For example, if you select Friday, then the process repeats each month on the same Friday of the week selected. |
Yearly | annually (yearly) by the date entered in the Start Date field. For example, if the start date is 9/12/02, then the process will repeat on 9/12 every year. |
Calendar Month End | the last day of every calendar month. |
Fiscal Month End | the last fiscal day of every month based on your general ledger settings. |
Interval | Indicate how often you want the report or process to run. For example, if you select Calendar Month End and enter 3 in this field, the system runs the report every third month for the calendar month-end. |
Click OK to save the schedule, start the procedure, and exit the Phantom Scheduler dialog box.
The system returns you to the original window from which you accessed the Phantom Scheduler dialog box.
Do one of the following:
If you scheduled a report, set options, if needed, and generate the report.
Note: A report run from the phantom cannot print directly on a terminal's local printer. To print to the local printer, send the generated report to the Hold file and then print it from the print queue. To print the report directly, change the terminal's default printer to be a non-local printer.
If you scheduled a procedure, it begins when you click OK to exit the Phantom Scheduler dialog box.
